Will the Truth Set You Free?

Recently I was in the hot seat for something I said. A person had accused me of some things to my superior and the superior’s reaction was to move me to another location for a while. What caused me to be in trouble is that I truthfully told others why I was being moved and what caused the move. Basically I got in trouble for telling the truth. Even my superior found it odd that I didn’t lie, fib or be vague about the change.

My question is why? Why should I lie? What do I have to hide? People who lie have something to hide or are trying to save face. In my case, I have no problem exposing myself. Why, because the truth will set me free?

How so you ask? Will it get me out of my bind? I don’t know but what it will do is free my conscious mind of any negative feelings. By telling the truth my spirit is at peace.

I think deep down my parents knew this. As a child I would have been is greater trouble for lying then by telling the truth no matter what the outcome.  I still may have received a lecture but there wouldn’t be any severe punishment.  My parents choose to reward truthfulness. I must say that the lesson was passed down as I too would be more upset over catching my child lying about what she did or said. It certainly sends a strong message of what is important.

I’ve spoken about this before but imagine if you knew the true intentions of your employer, spouse or politician? Would you make the same conclusion about them? Would you stay employed or move on? Would you still vote for the politician who only said the things you wanted to hear but in reality had no intention of following through with them? Everything is out in the open.

Let’s say you did choose to stay or vote knowing the truth, what then? Well then you only have yourself to blame when it doesn’t work out the way you’d like it to. It’s not what people like to hear but it’s the truth.

Truth, responsibility and freedom are intertwined. Knowing the truth and taking responsibility for your decisions really does give you freedom because knowing the truth helps you make better decisions. The truth can be harsh but in the end it really does set you free.

Visualization + Action = GO!

"I would visualize things coming to me. It would just make me feel better. Visualization works if you work hard. That's the thing. You can't just visualize and go eat a sandwich." -- Jim Carrey

Visualize the life you want but don't stop there. Pay attention to divine guidance as it directs you to your dream but don't stop there either. Say YES to its call. And then take action.

That's how you create the life you want. That’s how professional athletes do it. If you can’t visualize it happening in your life then it can’t happen. Notice how you feel when you do visualize. Do you get anxious and excited? Do you find yourself getting just so far and then getting stuck? That’s a notice for you. It means there’s a belief inside you that’s not allowing you to move to the next level. Keep visualizing until you can get past that mental and emotional roadblock. It’s not that you have to know the “how” of how it all comes about but that you emotionally feel it coming into your life. It’s not an “if” but a “when.”

Keep visualizing, listening and acting.

It'll take you places!

You Have to Know Where You Are Before You Know Where to Go

Where do you want to go, be or do? Well, the first thing you need to do is find out where you’re at. People tent to miss that part.  They immediately see something they want and start moving towards it without giving much thought to the direction they need to take. This isn’t a physical direction unless you’re talking about a place but your inner direction. You really need to know who you are first.

If you know you wanted to pick up a specific item at a specialty store at the Mall of America, what is the first thing you’d want to do as you walked into this huge multi level mall with over 520 shops and 50 restaurants? Would you start walking aimlessly around the complex that’s as large as seven Yankee Stadium’s until you found your store, not likely?

This first thing you’d want to do is check the marquee to find out what part of the complex your specialty store is in. What do you do next, start walking? NO.  The next step, and this is the part a lot of us make in regards to our own growth, is check to see where you’re at.  On the marquee it’s usually in big bold letters that say, YOU ARE HERE.

Now you know where you are in relation to where you want to go. And just like the walk you’ll be making to get to that store, don’t get discouraged because it’s a long walk to get there. Remember to keep thinking about what it’ll be like once you reach your destination (goal) and pick up (achieve) that item (desire) that you’ve wanted to get.

Get Over it

The Eagles music group had it right when they made those three words popular for this song.

Get over it simply states the obvious and yet there are so many people that will hang onto an event, situation, person or place as the cause of the failure for their current circumstances.  That’s a bunch of B.S. Listen up people, the reason it remains as the cause of your failure is because you let it.  You heard right, you let it.  Get over it.  It’s the past and there is absolutely nothing that you can do or say that will change the event or person.

I’m really sorry to hear that you were abused, taken advantage of, grew up poor, lost your job, dropped out of school, got in a car accident, were made fun of, overweight and put down, I truly am, but whatever happened to you isn’t who you need to remain. You have free will, use it. It’s the most powerful thing you have at your disposal.  Don’t let anyone or anything keep you from it.

Get over it. Lesson learned.  Move on. The past is the past and nothing will change it.  The only thing you can do is learn from it. The more you know what you don’t want the more clear you can be on what you do want.

·        Focus on what you want not what you don’t want

·        Focus on what you want your future to look like

·        Focus on how it would feel when you’re where you want to be

The past is gone and the future isn’t here so don’t worry about it, work on what is happening in the present moment. If you are a high school drop-out, then sign up for one course that will help you, you only need one to start, the rest will follow.  Take the first step.  If you were put down and made to feel unworthy, every day come up with at least five things that make you special.  Write them down and review them often.  If you were taken advantage of or made fun of, learn to stand up for yourself in a tactful and confident manner. You can start small and work your way up with your spouse or co-worker until you reach the person or situation that is the most challenging for you. It will take practice but keep with it. These are but a few examples but I think you get the picture.

Sure you’ll probably take a misstep and go back to your old way of thinking by singing the poor- poor pitiful me tune but stop yourself when you hear those thoughts and words surface.  Do an about face and remind yourself to get back into the present moment.  Remind yourself that that was the past but it doesn’t define or control you anymore for you have learned to love the experiences that have made you who you are. You got over it.
